I recently took the Gallipoli, Troy, and Pergamon 2-day, 1-night tour and it was an unforgettable experience! This trip was the perfect combination of ancient history and modern significance, giving me a deeper appreciation for Turkey’s rich cultural heritage.
On Day 1, we started with a visit to Gallipoli, which was incredibly moving. As an Australian, it was especially meaningful to visit ANZAC Cove and the Lone Pine Cemetery. The guide did an excellent job of explaining the history behind the Gallipoli Campaign, and I learned a lot about the bravery of both the ANZAC soldiers and the Turkish defenders. The whole experience was emotional but also inspiring.
After Gallipoli, we headed to Troy, which was fascinating! Walking through the ruins of the legendary city and seeing the Trojan Horse was like stepping back in time. The historical significance of Troy, especially the connection to the Trojan War and Greek mythology, was mind-blowing. I loved seeing the layers of history in the ruins—it felt like each stone had a story to tell.
On Day 2, we explored Pergamon, and wow, what an incredible ancient city! The acropolis was stunning, and the views from the Pergamon Theater were breathtaking. The Asclepius Sanctuary was another highlight, with its fascinating history of medicine and healing. I was amazed at how well-preserved so many of the ruins were, and it was easy to imagine what life was like thousands of years ago.
The tour was well-organized, and our guide was incredibly knowledgeable, providing insightful commentary at every stop. The transportation was comfortable, and I appreciated the meals included, which gave us a chance to relax and reflect on the sites we visited.
Overall, I highly recommend this tour for anyone interested in history, archaeology, or just wanting to see some of Turkey’s most iconic landmarks. It was an incredible journey through time, and I’m so glad I did it!
